It was an encounter with Sarah Burton, Creative Director at Alexander McQueen, that transformed the trajectory of Pat Boguslawski’s career and made him the much-admired and highly coveted Movement Director that he is today.
She stopped a rehearsal for an upcoming show and asked then-model Boguslawski to show his counterparts how to walk the runway. She said that he was the only one there who was showing her what she wanted to see. He’d understood the collection and the creativity and had captured it in the way he moved. Being handpicked by Burton to direct the physical interpretation of the other models was the moment something was triggered in Boguslawski.
Of course, he was no stranger to the power of movement.
His own experiences in front of the lens have nurtured his journey into Movement Direction. He was photographed by the acclaimed photographer Tim Walker alongside actress Tilda Swinton, moving, acting, and responding to her on set, and it is this instinctive reaction that sets his work apart. He brings out the best in people in front of a camera or audience, helping them to feel confident, powerful, and cool, while assisting with the creative direction and execution.
It is these qualities that caught the eye of designer John Galliano, with whom Boguslawski has collaborated on Maison Margiela since 2018. They have worked together on the majority of campaigns and shows. Boguslawski was the mastermind by the now-iconic closing walk by Leon Dame that caused a viral sensation in 2020 and remains a prime example of Boguslawski’s fearless and irreverent approach.
His portfolio boasts work with some of the most revered names in the industry.
Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, Gucci, Givenchy, Chanel, Versace, Fendi, Valentino, and Louis Vuitton have called up Boguslawski’s keen eye and imagination for their campaigns and shows.
He has brought stories to life with photographers including Mert and Marcus, Nick Knight, Alasdair McLellan, Drew Vickers, Charlotte Wales, Mikael Janson and Patrick Demarchelier, and has appeared in the pages of esteemed titles such as British Vogue, Vogue Italia, US Vogue, POP, System Magazine, Re-Edition, Double Magazine, Replica, and Beauty Papers.
Boguslawski is represented by Streeters and is based between Paris and London.
