In 2019, Carl worked with high street giant Zara and Water.org, a non-profit organisation which works to bring clean water and sanitation to the world.
Carl was called upon to concept the art direction and styling to communicate the campaign's important message in the most authentic way possible.
Alexandra Carl is an acclaimed fashion stylist and Fashion Director at RIKA Magazine.
Copenhagen-born Carl’s interest in fashion began at an early age and was nurtured by both her creative grandmother and journalist parents, with whom she spent the first five years of her life travelling as they made documentaries. Carl completed Film Studies in Copenhagen before relocating to London to study Psychology and Feminist Theory in Media at Goldsmiths University of London. She had previously been scouted as a model while still living in Denmark and by the age of 18, had already begun her career as a stylist. One of her first projects saw her working with global sports giant Adidas on shows in Scandinavia and Berlin. By the time she moved to London to study, Carl was already establishing herself as one of the most exciting stylists to watch.
Influenced by her studies in film, Carl creates narratives and builds characters throughout her commercial and creative projects. Her aesthetic celebrates androgyny, and there is a sense of utilitarianism played against a spirit of irreverence, while never compromising on her vision of femininity and womanhood. Her unique point of view is beautifully exemplified in the way she manipulates, constructs and deconstructs clothing and details.
Thanks to Carl’s originality and focus, she has worked with some of fashion’s most esteemed talents, including photographer Peter Lindberg and artist Viviane Sassen. A particular career highlight saw Carl collaborating with iconic photographer Juergen Teller and boundary-pushing artist Erwin Wurm on a shoot at the first house designed by Le Corbusier.
Furthermore, powerhouse brands and coveted titles have called up Carl’s vision and talent. Her portfolio of clients includes highly regarded names such as Hermès, Cartier, Tiffany’s, Zara, H&M, Adidas, Self Portrait Studio, Barney’s, Rejina Pyo and ARKET. Her work has been featured in pages of prestigious magazines including POP, W, WSJ, RIKA and the British, Chinese and Italian editions of Vogue.
As a further testament to Carl’s ever-burgeoning career and reputation, she was included in Self Service’s list of people who are shaping and influencing the future of the fashion industry, and was photographed by Ezra Petronio (left).
