A BOOK OF PHOTOGRAPHS BY PHOTOGRAPHER MARK SEGAL
BENEFITING CHEETAH CONSERVATION
CHEETAH is the culmination of a 5-year body of work by the art and fashion photographer Mark Segal. The compilation of images combine his passion for cheetahs, his commitment to conservation, and his talent as an accomplished fashion photographer. The series will be featured in a 242 page, hand-bound cloth volume with a silk-screen printed cover published by Damiani, the premiere Italian art book publisher. In addition, it is art directed by world renowned creative director Fabien Baron with a contribution from fashion icon, Grace Coddington. It is Mark Segal’s wish that this book draw awareness to the plight of the cheetah, Africa’s most endangered cat, and as a call to action to encourage others to get involved in the protection of wildlife. All of Mark Segal’s profits from the sale of the book will go to cheetah conservation, notably the Cheetah Conservation Fund, Namibia.
Mark is a Board of Trustee member of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the most significant wild cheetah research institution in the world, based in Namibia. The founder of the CCF, Dr. Laurie Marker, is an American that began researching the problems affecting the wild cheetah in the late 1970’s. She officially opened her non-profit 501c in Namibia in 1990. Through many years of hard work and an ingenious, holistic approach to conservation, Dr. Marker is now recognized as the leading force in stabilizing the Namibian population of wild cheetahs. Unfortunately, all other cheetah populations are highly fragmented and are in rapid decline. 100 years ago there were roughly 100,000 wild cheetahs worldwide—the current IUCN Red Book census estimates today there are less than 7,100 cheetahs left in the wild. The cheetah is the fastest land mammal but is sadly racing towards extinction.
